Earl Sweatshirt-Grief

Earl Sweatshirt is a former Los Angeles-based Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (OFWGKTA) crew member, and has been lighting a flame to the ideas of unified hip hop. Sweatshirt’s music is not the average mainstream music and continues to prove that you don’t have to be like the next in line to be great. From the beginning of his career he has been what some would call weird. He’s such a great weird, that his fan base is growing in rapid numbers and his music gets better with each release. His latest album,  I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside is banging.  The name speaks for itself and I like every vibe on it from start to finish.

My favorite vibe from the album and the first released from the album, “Grief”, has some seriously dope elements and the video proves my point. The video is not your stereotypical booty shaking video or just guys throwing up signs. The mood of the video definitely matches the mood of the song, grief indeed. The video is precise in proving that all grief is very much different and that sometimes, self medicating can be extreme and in some cases also very necessary. Whatever has/had Sweatshirt bugging out came through his music and right to our ears.

Sweatshirts defiance with self has turned into one of the best albums. the build up as you go from track to track is intense and seems like the release of frustration in a man tired of being played in so many ways. Don’t be fooled this is not just a dope album but a therapy to those in that dark place right now. Don’t believe me? Check it out, you can get it on ITunes now and you wont be mad that you did. Make sure you check out Sweatshirt’s website and social media. This is one dude you’ll want to see live so check out when he’ll be in your city.
