“I’m black and I love it. I’m black, so black is the subject”

Innanet James formerly known as Sails, makes his intentions clear, concise and without apology in “Black”. This track is crammed packed with explosive lyrics. The self love that James shows for himself and his black people make so many of the bad days in music, better. James seems to be a brother with his head on straight and is ready to be the change that he so desperately wants to see in the world.

James took his musical journey, that he tried to escape, and turned it into a positive outlet. He says he only raps about the things he has personally seen or experienced himself, not of the experiences he heard. “Black” is special to James. It was the song that represents the day that he started wholeheartedly believing in himself. He quit his job and recorded the track. It may have been his breaking point but I see it as his break through point and the result was awesome music.
