The ‘3 seconds rule’ challenge started as a way to redirect the chaos I find myself in each week. I had lists, lists for the lists, and even alarms, but I never felt like I was getting enough done. I gave myself way too much room to deter with a later decision.

Instead of taking on a 30 day challenge, I created a simple self-ignite 3 day challenge. I began to use the ‘3 seconds rule’ in all of my decision-making. I noticed results immediately. Although I still use lists, I have a more controlled list with clear intentions.

3 seconds doesn’t seem like enough time to thoroughly decide anything, but on the contrary, it’s the perfect amount of time without over thinking.

Here are a few lessons I have learned from the

‘3 seconds rule’ challenge:

  • There is a difference between mindful and mind full– When you’re mindful, you are fully conscious of your doings and roles in doings; When your mind is full of stuff, it becomes very hard to function on even the basic level;

  • All decisions matter– Decisions trickle faster than a leaking pipe. Either your going to allow yourself to be washed away by the backed up downpour (You waiting to decide on when to decide), or you are going to decide on how you should fix the leak now (give yourself 3 seconds & make a decision).
  • You gain the clarity needed for positive conflict resolution It allows your better judgment to prevail versus your emotional judgment
  • This helps build a greater self-confidence awareness in decision-making.
  • It’s easy to do every day.


The ‘3 seconds rule’ enhances your brain’s ability to make sound decisions without feeling the normal stress associations attached (anxiety, nervous tick, twitching eyes, tounge suking etc.). When you practice to detach your emotions from every decision and attach conscious mindfulness into every decision your results are a life worth the journey.
