The 21/90 Rule

Hello My Beautiful People! Recently, I came across the 21/90 rule which says “It takes 21 days to create a habit, and 90 days to create a lifestyle.” I don’t know why I have never seen this rule but it was right on time. Although habits are hard to create at any time, I find that it’s easiest for me to do when the season are changing. I just love when the seasons begin to change; It signifies the beginning of something and the end of another, just like the exchange of good and bad habits.

It takes 21 days to create a new habit.

Sticking to anything new takes a great deal of willpower. If you can hold on for 21 days you can create a new habit, good or bad. Honestly, it seems like a bad habit it harder to do. I say that because it takes real power to not listen to your “positive thoughts” and/or “get going alarms” when you know you should or want to do something. Our bodies have natural alarms that give us the urge to do things. If you listen closely I’m sure you’d realize what yours is saying to you.

If you have been wanting to get rid of some bad habits and replace them with better ones, challenge yourself for 21 day. Do 1 small thing for 21 days. I suggest doing something small because you don’t want to come up with a list of things and ultimately fail because you’ve now overloaded yourself. Be reasonable. If your goal is to become healthier start with adding more vegetables to your meals each day and start with going for a walk daily if you can ( weekly is okay too, just be real with yourself and choose something you can stick to.)

It takes 90 days to create a lifestyle

Living a certain way takes a lot of work. good or bad. Creating a habit is hard but creating a lifestyle takes a real effort that pushes past just thinking about the habit you want to create or trash. A lifestyle is composed of many behaviors; creating the one you want takes a bit of thought.

Maybe you want to become healthier. You have to seriously evaluate what you are doing now and what you need to do. Researching others who live a healthy life allows you to know what you want and don’t want to add to your life.

If you’re ready to make a change but you’re not sure that you’ll be able to stay on the course, the easiest thing to do is join a group. Facebook has a group for everyone it seems. You can almost find a group for anything that may come to mind.

When it comes to creating new habits and lifestyles, holding ourselves accountable can be as hard as the what you’re trying to create. If you join a group or group challenge with others you are 1, more willing to keep going, 2, it makes it easier because you don’t feel alone and 3, you are now held accountable by others even if it’s just in your head.

Whether you want to create a new habit or lifestyle, you have to start now. As they say, pull the band-aid off. You already ready know what could not happen if you wait; you’ve pretty much mastered that by now.
